Samuel Gibbs

Artist from Canterbury

 Statement:

My practice revolves around chemical or intriguing substances that I produce into sculptures and installations.

It's almost a type of reverse alchemic interest which I use to produce these unique and unclear lacks of form. A form that evades classification.

At the moment my work engages with beauty and the grotesque, I'm inspired and interested by theoretical texts such as  Bataille's  L'Informe (formlessness) and  Kristeva's Abjection. I'm interested in the language of the in-between and how this effects the viewer.
